Bassnectar ‘recoils’ from music after allegations of misconduct

The EDM star Bassnectar announced that he is “backing down” from his music career after numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against him appeared on social media. The producer, real name Loren Ashton, also promised to give up the Be Interactive initiative after the allegations.

“I am moving away from my career and my position of power and privilege in this community because I want to take responsibility and accountability,” Ashton said in a statement on Twitter. “I have intense compassion for anyone who may have hurt. I really hope that you allow me the opportunity to work together towards healing. ”

Ashton’s statement came less than a week after an Instagram account called Evidence Against Bassnectar began posting social media accounts accusing Ashton of sexual misconduct and grooming young fans, allegations backed by some of the previous contributors to Ashton reported Your EDM.

The accusations against Ashton reappeared in recent weeks after responding to a long statement he posted on Twitter on June 30, in which he touted that his “own romantic relationships and interactions have been positive, consensual, legal and loving.”

In his statement Friday, Ashton denied the allegations circulating on social media, but indirectly apologized for his “past actions.”

“The rumors you are hearing are false, but I realize that some of my past actions have caused pain, and I am deeply sorry,” Ashton wrote. “I am turning over our nonprofit organization Be Interactive to a diverse team to continue without my involvement moving forward. At some point in the future I could share more ideas on these issues, but for now, take care of each other and I wish you all the brightest future. ”
