Miami-Dade County, Fla. – A man was pulling a gun due to a fight between family members at a Miami-Dade home, and he was shot dead by police after negotiating with the barricaded man for about six hours.
Officers responded to the home on 171st Northwest Street, near Northwest Miami Court, just after 2 p.m. Tuesday. During a family dispute, one person took a gun at one point, Miami-Dade police said.
Family members were evacuated, and an armed man barricaded himself inside.
The SWAT team responded and tried to negotiate with this man for about six hours.
Finally, at eight o’clock at night, they entered the house.
Police said there was an exchange of gunfire between the offices and the man, who was wounded and taken to Adventura Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.
“The special response team and the hostage negotiators requested the subject for several hours to remove themselves from the residence, but he refused to do so. At that point, the special response team entered the residence,” Dat. Said Christopher Welch of the Miami-Dade Police Department. “There was a confrontation, an exchange of fire.”
It is not clear what the family’s argument is, how many people were inside the house and how many officers fired.
The Florida Law Enforcement Department is investigating officers’ decision to use lethal force.
