“Barbara Walters ended Trump’s BS in 1990.”
It may have been 30 years ago, but the tune was still the same: dishonest press, great deals, many people say.
But the difference in 1990 was that Barbara Walters was still looking for BS, and she was unwilling to let any prey escape her.
The legendary journalist’s name was trending on Twitter on Thursday after an old interview with Donald Trump resurfaced.

“I have never seen press reports as I have regarding me,” laments the then-president in the video. “I hope the general public understands how inherently dishonest the press is in this country.”
“As a member of the press, let me try to clarify some of the things that we say are not true,” Barbara replies quite naturally, before quoting Trump directly from a published interview.
“‘My bankers and I have reached an excellent agreement that allows me to come out stronger than ever. I see the agreement as a great victory,'” she said before asking: “Being on the verge of bankruptcy, being rescued by the banks … . “
At this point, Trump tries to interrupt, but a severe hand from Barbara immediately turns him off.
“… ice skating thin and almost drowning; is he a businessman who should be admired?”
Trump tries to explain his departure: “You say on the verge of bankruptcy Barbara, and you speak on the verge, and listen to what people say …”
“I spoke to your bankers,” interrupts Barbara.
After a laborious pause, Trump writhes, “Well, that’s fine, and what did they say? You know, depending on which banker you’re talking to …”
“Various.”
“I don’t know what the bankers said, The Plaza is a very valuable property, everyone said to me ‘oh, you paid too much, you paid too much’ … now everyone says ‘what a great deal he made …'”
“No, they are not.”

Two years earlier, Trump had purchased the Plaza Hotel in New York from the Westin group for a whopping $ 390 million (the equivalent of $ 850 million in today’s money); Another $ 50 million in renovations saw him generate a healthy operating income, but not enough to cover the huge debt.
In 1992, the company Trump created to operate was declared bankrupt, the fourth of six times it would file one.
While the President previously boasted of using corporate bankruptcy as a business tool, he never requested a personal bankruptcy, isolating his personal fortune from any business that goes wrong.
Either way, Twitter was amazed at how unflappable Walters dealt with the property mogul, even if at the time he didn’t have the power of the Oval Office behind him.
