SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. – Bank of Sun Prairie has asked residents to convert their loose change to dollars or deposit coins in their accounts.
The request is the result of a national currency shortage stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a result of the pandemic that we didn’t necessarily see coming, but it makes a lot of sense,” said Jimmy Kauffman, president, CEO, and chairman of the board of the Bank of Sun Prairie. “There are only fewer people out there who physically circulate coins. We’re happy to help by raising as many coins as we can from members of our community as the Federal Reserve works to mint more! ”
The press release says the coin campaign is open to community members, regardless of whether they are customers of Bank of Sun Prairie.
Those who want to help can go to the first shortcut lane at any of the bank’s locations in Sun Prairie or Cottage Grove and drop off their coins in a plastic bag. To deliver more coins, residents can make an appointment for sidewalk service by calling 608-837-4511 or by sending an email to [email protected].
