Baltimore Ravens tight end Nick Boyle suffered a knee injury at the end of the season in the third quarter of Sunday night’s 23-17 defeat in New England, coach John Harby said.
After making a Y-yard catch, Boyle hit a direct blow to his left leg, causing him to turn inwards. The entire Ravens team surrounded Boyle before fielding him.
Boyle is considered one of the top blocking tight ends in the NFL. He entered Sunday’s game as Baltimore’s sixth-ranked receiver.
It was a traumatic night for Baltimore, with Brandon Williams (ankle) and Cornbach Terrell Bonds (knee) facing a snub.
Williams injured his left ankle early in the game and was initially considered questionable before being downgraded.
The Ravens were already without a defensive end, Calais Campbell, who was paralyzed by a calf injury. He ended Campbell’s straight line, the second longest current for a defensive end.
Without Williams and Campbell, Baltimore were allowed to run at a loss of 173 yards. The Ravens entered Sunday night with a No. 8 defense, giving a rush of 101.8 yards per game.
