The Orioles have given the Blue Jays permission to host 2020 home games at Camden Yards in Baltimore, according to MLB’s Jon Heyman.
The state of Maryland still needs to approve the Orioles’ decision.
“We have had some conversations with the Orioles. I do not know the final details of that,” Maryland Governor Larry Hogan told the Associated Press about the possible Blue Jays move. “Obviously we are looking at our numbers very carefully every day. We are concerned about spikes in other states.”
The Blue Jays cannot play at Toronto’s Rogers Center because of their frequent round-trip trips from the United States in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. The franchise explored playing home games at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, but Toronto was once again denied due to the team’s frequent travels.
Toronto won’t be able to wear the home locker room at Camden Yards, although that may not be the only problem, according to Dan Connolly and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Blue Jays also couldn’t use the visiting clubhouse, so they need “a makeshift clubhouse,” according to Connolly and Rosenthal.
The Blue Jays will be on tour during their first five games of 2020. They are slated to hold their first game at home on July 29, although the venue for the battle against Washington is still pending.
