A crisis meeting will take place on Monday at the Schönbrunn Zoo. Because the zoo and the “Casa del Mar” are affected by the closings on Tuesday.
Due to the second lockdown ordered by the federal government, all zoos in Austria must close on Tuesday. The Schönbrunn Zoo and the “Haus des Meeres” Zoo Aquarium are also affected. Crisis meetings are scheduled at both facilities to discuss the current situation and the upcoming shutdown, according to APA inquiries on Sunday.
A spokeswoman for the zoo reported that those responsible will meet tomorrow Monday at the Schönbrunn Zoo. A meeting will also be held at the “Haus des Meeres” about the upcoming closure, as Managing Director Michael Mitic said. Both facilities had to be closed for a time during the first closure in spring.
“Haus des Meeres” already complained about the precarious situation in the spring
Above all, the “Casa del Mar” regretted the precarious financial situation in which it had slipped due to the closure. There was no revenue, but high running costs, as noted at the time. For this reason, donations were requested to secure basic supplies at the zoo, including caring for the animals, as well as energy and feed costs.
The situation at the Schönbrunn Zoo is currently very calm. This Sunday, around 4,400 visitors visited the facility in the afternoon, the spokeswoman said. “It could be more, it’s not much for a Sunday.” He was unable to name the reasons for this, likely bad weather, possibly also the coronavirus pandemic.
