Zadic: The judiciary only learned of the murderer’s attempted purchase of ammunition after the terrorist act

Zadic did not want to openly criticize either the Interior Minister, Karl Nehammer, or the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Fight Against Terrorism (BVT), which is subordinate to the interior department. Instead, he stated that potential threats should be monitored “more closely” and that there should be an expansion of judicial control. In this context, he also welcomed the announcement by his government colleague Nehammer to reorganize the BVT.

Zadic declined to comment on reports that an action against radical Islamists had been scheduled the day after the attack. It does not interfere with ongoing research activities. This information will also not be given at press conferences. Because that would damage the investigation.

The Minister of Justice, however, confirmed that the author had attended several probation and de-radicalization sessions, the most recent on the Thursday before the attack. Therefore, it will be necessary to analyze what the judiciary can do to prevent such acts in the future.
