Starting Monday, a mask must be worn in all stores and restaurants. The setting now stays longer.
In reality, the “traffic light” should be presented a second time on Friday, that is, the assessment of the risk of infection in the individual districts. But the sharp increase in the number of infections last week prompted the government to change the program: Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler, and Ministers Rudolf Anschober and Karl Nehammer presented a renewed tightening on Friday at lunchtime: Starting Monday, new restrictions will apply to all of Austria, roughly corresponding to those that were intended for the yellow color of the traffic light.
This is exactly what the Vienna city government had demanded shortly before: Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ), demonstratively praising the good dialogue with the federal government, demanded that the requirement for masks in retail be tightened or in catering and also “awareness” in the world of work. It was recently recorded that after many young people, more older people are now getting sick again. “That worries us,” Ludwig said. And Health Councilor Peter Hacker, who in the past was more likely to criticize excessively rigid measures, said he did not approve of the easing measures taken by the federal government.
That’s over now anyway. “He’s getting serious again,” said Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who recently saw the “light at the end of the tunnel.” The aim is to avoid a second blockade: “We will only succeed if everyone contributes a contribution. We are” in the transition phase towards a difficult autumn, “said Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens). Current infection figures” are too high at the moment, “Anschober said, referring specifically to Vienna and parts of Tyrol:” We want to avoid a real second wave. “” We want to get through the winter reasonably well, “Kurz asked. And further:” Of course it is important that the health sector does not feel overwhelmed. The number of infections must not increase enormously. “” We are in the middle of a pandemic, “said the head of government. The new rules in detail:
More expensive
The previous mask requirement – applies in public transport, grocery stores, pharmacies and post offices – is being expanded: as of Monday, mouth and nose protection must be worn in all stores and for any form of contact with the client. This also applies to other indoor spaces in public areas, that is, for authorities and in schools outside the classrooms.
Events
10,000 spectators were admitted to the opening match of the Rapid Bundesliga against Admira Wacker on Friday. That was probably the last event with such a large audience in a long time. Starting Monday, there will be an upper limit of 100 outdoor and 50 indoor visitors for events. Big events with a safety concept and assigned seating are a bit more: 3,000 visitors are allowed outdoors, 1,500 indoors. The new regulation is a severe blow to football clubs: Rapid expects a loss of revenue “in the seven-digit range.” However, according to Sports Minister Werner Kogler, many things are still allowed in an international comparison.
Gastronomy
Again, both staff and guests should reuse nose and mouth protection. The latter are allowed to eliminate them on the table. They can only entertain themselves at the table, not at the bar.
Duration
The stricter rules are likely to remain in place for longer. Chancellor Kurz assumes it will remain so throughout the winter “and possibly beyond.” The rules “apply until the federal government sees the need to tighten or withdraw them,” Kurz said. He does not expect it to decrease in the next few weeks.
Traffic light colors
Which districts remain or turn yellow? Are there the first orange districts? Answers to these questions had been eagerly awaited before the government press conference. However, given the new rules, the question of green or yellow is hardly relevant to everyone. And not a single district was placed in Orange, although there were some candidates, such as Vienna or Innsbruck. There are now seven districts in yellow, namely all of Vienna (the federal capital does not distinguish between districts), Graz, the Tyrolean districts of Innsbruck, Schwaz and Kufstein, as well as Korneuburg and Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria. The capital of Upper Austria, Linz, turned green again, where there had been violent protests against the yellow classification the week before.
review
The opposition has little understanding of the announced crown measures. “We are in favor of the traffic light, we want it to work well, but at the moment there is only contradiction after contradiction on the part of the government,” said SPÖ health spokesman Philip Kucher: “The traffic light should bring clarity, now it creates even more confusion Almost all of Austria is green, but national regulations prescribe yellow measures. ”FPÖ President Norbert Hofer described the federal government as a change in collateral damage. Fear and scaremongering will continue, and the measures will go much further. The Neos also attested to the government “as much confusion as possible” by their appearance.
