At the end of October, 417 people, 192 women and 225 men, were registered as unemployed with AMS Waidhofen. That is 59 more people than in October of the previous year and means an increase in unemployment of 16.5 percent. In a comparison in Lower Austria, it is in the middle of the field. Nationally, the increase in unemployment in October was 18.9 percent.

The young and the elderly were hit the hardest by unemployment in October. For those under 25, the increase was 26.4 percent, for those over 50 it was 24 percent.

“Our top priority will be to secure the livelihood of all the people who are now unemployed as quickly as possible.”Anita Prüller, AMS Branch Manager

If the labor market data is compared with that of the previous month, nine fewer people were unemployed in October than in September. However, while the number of unemployed men fell by 13, that of women increased by four. The unemployment rate in the AMS Waidhofen district was 3.5 percent in September. Together with the Horn district, this is the lowest value in Lower Austria.

For the coming weeks, AMS Waidhofen expects a significant increase in the number of jobless registrations, not only because of the current lockdown, but also for seasonal reasons.

“As with the March closure, our highest priority will be to secure the livelihood of all people who are now unemployed as quickly as possible while minimizing the risk of infection for AMS counselors and job seekers.” says branch manager Anita Prüller and therefore requests unemployment reports. preferably online via eAMS account or by phone (information about this in https://www.ams.at/ #niederoesterreich).

“We will do everything in our power to make customer contact as short and compact as possible,” says Prüller. “If there are long wait times on the phone or in the office, we ask for your patience and help so that we can provide the best possible support to all the people who need us in this situation.”
