Austrian women’s champion SKN St. Pölten continues to cause a sensation in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The “Wolves” drew 2-2 in the first leg of the first leg against FC Rosengård, the Swedish record champions. Mateja Zver achieved a double pack!

With 2 degrees and light fog in Malmö, the SKN women performed over long distances with a 5-2-2-1 system with midfielders Jasmin Eder and Isabelle Meyer in the “six” positions and Bernadett Zágor as the “spearhead” Mateja Zver and Mária Mikolajová.
In this way, Austrian casualties were able to prevent Rosengårds’ rapid game change for long stretches and often doubled Serbian player Jelena Čanković (former Barça manager).
In the first half there were hardly any scoring chances from either side. Zver used the only really good one of the women after Mikolajová’s pass to 1-0 for SKN in the 21st minute. When Mimmi Larsson gave the Swedes their best chance just before half-time (after Fersler’s pass from Čanković), goalkeeper Isabella Kresche was there.
Awake in a minute
The second half started with a misunderstanding between Glódís Viggósdóttir and Hanna Bennison according to the motto “You catch the ball, I’ll have it” and Zver as the third laughing, who grabbed the ball, spit it all and in minute 46 cruelly increased to 2 -0 for wolves.
Rosengård realized the seriousness of the situation and changed gears. A minute later, SKN defender Leonarda Balog cleared the line and seconds later Kresche defused a Sanne Troelsgaard-Nielsen grenade.
Persistent pressure
In the 68th minute, however, Troelsgaard-Nielsen cut 1: 2 from the Swedes’ point of view after a nice presentation from Čanković. Less than ten minutes later, Larsson landed a fine header past the far corner.
Thanks to great teamwork, Lower Austria’s defensive bar held out for a long time, but in the third minute of injury time Rosengård scored the well-deserved equalizer through Caroline Seger to make it 2-2.
The return match will take place next Wednesday (8:30 pm) at the St. Pöltner NV Arena. With SV Neulengbach (2014), only one Austrian club has reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League. The “wolves”, of course, need another show of force.
