Fatal alpine accident in Tyrol.

Nesselwängle. A fatal alpine accident occurred on Sunday at Ausserfern in Tyrol. A 52-year-old German, accompanied by a friend, took a tour of the mountain on the west ridge to the Köllenspitze in Nesselwängle (Reutte district). During the descent down a via ferrata, the woman lost her balance for a hitherto inexplicable cause and fell in free fall some 60 to 80 meters into a gravel field below. He suffered fatal injuries.

According to the Police, the mountaineers traveled without via ferrata equipment and did not know the difficulty of the via ferrata, so they descended carelessly on the steel cable. They chose the descent via ferrata because the normal route was covered in snow.

The woman’s body was recovered by the “Libelle” police helicopter. The person accompanying the accident victim emerged from the “RK2” emergency medical helicopter unharmed.
