Last night, a terrible accident in the city of Wolfsberg claimed a death.
WOLFSBERG. On Monday night, two men were traveling south in an ambulance on Klagenfurter Strasse. There was a collision with a car at a traffic light intersection – the 52-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident.
Collision at the intersection
On Monday, October 5, 2020, around 7.10pm, a 21-year-old man and his 43-year-old passenger from the Wolfsberg district drove south on Klagenfurter Strasse (B70) in an ambulance: the secondary horn and the flashing lights they were on. At a crossroads with traffic lights, where there is also an exit for a supermarket parking lot, there was a serious collision with a car. According to statements by the two paramedics, the driver wanted to turn left onto Klagenfurter Strasse.
Front versus driver’s side
Despite the traffic lights being on, the two vehicles collided in the intersection area. The front of the rescue vehicle struck the driver’s side of the car, which was driven by a 52-year-old woman from the Wolfsberg district. The car was subsequently pushed across the road until a business located there was fenced off. Both paramedics immediately abandoned their ambulance and attempted to rescue the driver from the car along with a passerby.
Fatal outcome
At the same time, Volunteer Fire Brigade (FF) Wolfsberg was heading for an exercise and was therefore very close. They reached the crash site immediately and opened the driver’s door with rescue scissors. However, any help came too late for the 52-year-old Lavanttaler: despite rescue measures started immediately, he died at the crash site.
According to the Police Inspectorate (PI) Wolfsberg, both paramedics suffered injuries of an unspecified degree. A pedestrian traffic light and a power distribution box were completely destroyed by the accident, and FF Wolfsberg cut power in this area.
