The solution for industries that are indirectly affected is a question of equity

Vienna (OTS) For many companies, the renewed lockdown is particularly painful. Without effective measures to cushion the effects of the shutdown, another nationwide shutdown would not be manageable for many businesses.

Therefore, WKÖ President Harald Mahrer and General Secretary Karlheinz Kopf welcome the expansion of public support for companies presented today: “The crisis has hit many companies hard, many are reaching their limits . It is even more important that business aid is now scaled up selectively, so that the survival aid network becomes an even closer network. ”

Retail companies are now also receiving refunds for days lost through the end of the year. As required by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, December 2019 sales are used as comparison period.Body-friendly service providers are also entitled to a 50 percent refund of sales during this period, as already this is the case of restaurants and hotels.

Now, finally, there is also revenue replacement for indirectly affected industries, such as suppliers that are experiencing the closure of their corporate clients, such as the catering trade. “We have campaigned massively for a support package for industries that are indirectly affected. This is an important sign of fairness and equal treatment for the many thousands of vendors, from the baker to the greengrocer, the event technician and various other service providers, ”said Mahrer.

WKÖ General Secretary Karlheinz Kopf adds: “Financial aid must be as effective, non-bureaucratic and fair as possible. Therefore, it is the correct next step to compensate companies indirectly affected for their losses related to the crown, even if the design of the guideline and the determination of losses will be more complex than for those directly affected. ”

Outside of the revenue replacement period, all companies with a sharp drop in revenue can request reimbursement of their fixed costs for the period from mid-September 2020 to June 2021. Head on: after months of crisis, many companies are reaching the limits of the currently applicable EU funding framework of € 800,000 for both fixed cost grants and sales compensation, while losses continue to accumulate. “Therefore, the Chamber of Commerce advocates increasing this framework:” Now it is the turn of the EU Commission to increase the framework, “demand Mahrer and Kopf in unison. Because: “All companies that now have support and can continue working with them ensure that the economic engine continues to function and jobs are protected” (PWK640 / DMC).
