The Irish low-cost airline closes its base in Vienna. Among other things, 20 Ryanair pilots have to move abroad or lose their jobs.
Ryanair is getting cheaper in Vienna. First, the Irish announced in the summer that they would move their daughter Lauda from Vienna and rebuild her more economically in Malta, under the name Lauda Europe. The new Maltese subsidiary continued to park planes in the Austrian capital.
In early October, Lauda’s boss, David O’Brien, said they were working with Ryanair on the winter flight program. “But deep cuts in Vienna are increasingly likely.” At the end of October, the low-cost airline parked a plane from its Polish subsidiary Buzz in Vienna.
Nine captains and eleven first officers affected
Now, the next step is this: Ryanair pulls out of Vienna with its three Boeing 737-800s. According to the Aviation Direct portal, employees can move to Dublin, Athens or Thessaloniki if they do not want to lose their jobs.
According to the information available to aeroTELEGRAPH, the closure of the cockpit base will affect nine captains and eleven first officers. Therefore, Ryanair will allow its subsidiaries Lauda Europe and Buzz to manage the Vienna location in the future.
