Sobotka said that everything he said in the committee about the period under investigation regarding announcements and joint events of the Alois Mock Institute and Novomatic was correct. He would be particularly hurt by the accusations about Novomatic’s sponsorship of the chamber orchestra in his hometown Waidhofen / Ybbs: “I’m a conductor there, nothing more.” More recently, after Nina Tomaselli, leader of the Green Group in the committee, also Green Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler Sobotka advised against taking the presidency “until these possible or real contradictions have been resolved.”

Sobotka’s refusal to withdraw is “a slap in the face to independent education in parliament,” Neos general secretary Nikola Donig said Sunday. The SPÖ had also harshly criticized Sobotka.
