Wirecard scandal: investigations against Ernst & Young begin

The Wirecard accounting scandal is now also being investigated against former Ernst & Young auditors. This was confirmed by the responsible prosecutor in Munich. Therefore, the antecedent is a criminal complaint filed against Ernst & Young by the audit supervisory authority APAS.

Ernst & Young stated that the company was not aware of any indications of criminal behavior on the part of its auditors at Wirecard. Supports investigations by competent authorities.

Trial order was not taken seriously enough

There have been repeated accusations against Ernst & Young that they did not take Wirecard’s audit order seriously enough and thus alleviated the financial services provider’s dubious business practices.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Wirecard had been using airline reservations to beautify its books for years. Wirecard had to file for bankruptcy in the summer. As a result, creditors have claimed more than twelve billion euros in claims.
