This week will bring winter and the first snowfalls in the lowlands, according to the forecast of the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics.

With a frontal zone, dense fields of clouds come to Austria from the west on Tuesdays and rain and snow spread.

Snow on Tuesday

Tuesday will be cloudy to cloudy in the morning and snowfall and sleet will reach Vorarlberg in the course of the morning. The snow line is near the Rhine valley.

At low altitudes, icy precipitation cannot be ruled out on subcooled soils in the morning. With increasing rains, it can snow in the Rhine Valley until around noon, although sleet is more likely in the afternoon.

Cold wednesday

Wednesday is cold and often cloudy. There are probably only a few sunny breaks, probably in the morning. Light snowfall is possible at night, also in the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance.

Chill out on thursday

Thursday starts cloudy to cloudy. Some light showers of snow come into the morning. In the afternoon it loosens up and becomes sunny and dry.

Stormy weekend

A massive low is slowly approaching on Friday. A strong foehn situation in the south sets in at the front in Vorarlberg on Friday. So it remains quite sunny and dry for most of the day, but there are more and more storms. In the mountains it gets smoother at all altitudes.

Saturday will be windy and increasingly wintry. From thick clouds it rains and snows from the beginning. At Lake Constance, in the Rhine Valley and in the Bregenz Forest, the snow line lies in the lowlands. From Walgau to the south it still rains up to about 1500 meters.
