The trial at the regional court in Wiener Neustadt is scheduled for two days. On the dock sits a 31-year-old who is said to have wiped out his family on October 27, 2019. According to the indictment, he first killed the 29-year-old wife and then his two children.

The man, who was represented by Wolfgang Blaschitz as a lawyer, is charged with three murders. He faces life in prison. Due to a personality disorder, the prosecution also requested admission to an institution for mentally abnormal lawbreakers pursuant to Section 21 (2) StGB. According to him, a fight in which the woman threatened to divorce was the trigger for the act. She pleaded guilty.

“I’ve always been the stranger”

The couple had been married for six years after meeting at a wedding. “It was a love match,” the 31-year-old told the jury (chair: Birgit Borns). “We were a happy family.” When the children saw the light, however, there were always disputes, especially when it came to raising the children, she said. The defendant later described the relationship as “troubled and very difficult.”

The Austrian with Turkish roots would have liked to send the children to Koran school, which the rather independent woman, who had two jobs, rejected. The mother of two also criticized the fact that the 31-year-old no longer wanted to help out at home and refused to contact the in-laws. “I’ve always been the weakest in the family.” Several times there should have been a separation in the room. According to her statements, the woman filed for divorce for the first time after the birth of her first child. “I tried to change, but it didn’t help,” the man said. “And I couldn’t imagine a breakup.”

However, the defendant’s mother-in-law knew nothing of a separation. However, when the 31-year-old sister divorced, he too repeatedly confronted the 29-year-old with whether she had similar plans. Divorce would not have been a problem for her daughter. “He even thought about having a third child,” the 51-year-old said. “She loved being a mother. She lived for her children.” The 19-year-old sister of the murdered, who saw the 29-year-old every day, also protested: “The marriage was good.”

The wife repeatedly spoke about the divorce

The night before the bloody act there was another discussion, but the defendant denounced. “My wife was very dominant at home,” said the 31-year-old. Because he couldn’t sleep as a result, he grabbed an apple, a cutting board, and a kitchen knife early in the morning and went back upstairs to the townhouse. When his wife spoke about the divorce again, the man is said to have stabbed the woman with a knife with an 8-inch long blade “for fear of losing his family and ceasing to be loved,” the prosecutor said. .

He was pushed by the woman and stabbed “by reflex”, the defendant said: “The shove he gave me was the point where I said, enough is enough.” All four bites were fatal to the 29-year-old.

“I did not want children to enter foreign families”

At the trial, the defendant did not want to remember the exact course of events in the murder of the children, as he explained without emotion. “I didn’t want the children to come to a strange family,” the 31-year-old said. According to the indictment, he also stabbed his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter twice. The girl was bleeding inside.

In the end, she covered her son’s mouth and nose with her hand and threatened to suffocate. The 11-month-old boy was able to be revived by alarmed first responders, the 31-year-old called the police, but succumbed to a massive lack of oxygen at the hospital.

The defendant initially spoke of an honor killing.

Before investigators, the man had declared that it had been an “honor killing”. He would have felt that his wife was cheating on him. Barbara Steiner, representative of the private parties, joined the process on behalf of the bereaved.

In his report, psychiatric expert Manfred Walzl certified the 31-year-old with a “combined personality disorder with pronounced narcissistic and antisocial components” and pretend behavior. Furthermore, it can be assumed that the man “with a high probability of being inclined to repeat crimes with serious consequences for life and physical integrity”. Therefore, the expert recommended placement in an institution for mentally abnormal lawbreakers in accordance with article 21, paragraph 2, StGB.

A trial is expected on September 8. On the second day of negotiations, the experts will present their reports.
