A petition calls for the opening of the Wiener Wurstelprater.

The SPÖ Vienna-Leopoldstadt campaigned for the Wurstelprater in the pre-election campaign for the election of the local council: on Sunday it supported a petition by the Prater companies to the Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober (Greens) and the Minister of Economy Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP), in which an opening permit was granted for the Prater from May 15 – as required for gastronomy (Prater).
“This is a game with the times,” SPÖ chief candidate in Leopoldstadt, Alexander Nikolai, said in a broadcast. He is even concerned with the “Prater Institution”: “The Prater is a cultural asset and an important economic factor in Leopoldstadt. Vienna without the Prater? It would be like Vienna without St. Stephen’s Cathedral.” According to the SPÖ, 1,200 people work at the Prater, whose economic existence is at stake in times of record unemployment.
Wurstelprater is not an event within the meaning of the Epidemic Law
According to the Social Democrats, the operators of the petition refer to the municipal department 36 responsible for the commercial premises and events, according to this, the Wurstelprater in the state law is not an event in the sense of the epidemic law. Therefore, the lawsuit is the start of operations in the Prater (showman and restaurants) as part of the Epidemic Law until mid-May 2020.
The Vienna Events Act, on the other hand, classifies the Wurstelprater as one of the “burlesque public amusements”. According to the SPÖ, for the Ministry of Health, which draws up the regulations, the Vienna State Law makes the Prater an event. And events are currently banned until the end of June.
“Laughter is the best medicine,” argue Prater’s operators in their petition (see https://mein.aufstehn.at/petitions/wir-retten-den-wiener-wurstelprat er). They had already done all the necessary preparatory work and developed a comprehensive hygiene concept. Most of the rides are outdoors. Wherever, for example, on the ghost train, you are driving in an enclosed space, the distances are large enough and the stay is predetermined. When queuing, the distance must be guaranteed by floor adhesives, such as in supermarkets. When it comes to walks, flooring adhesives should refer to regulations.
