What can be seen on the first election posters of the Vienna ÖVP is quickly explained: Gernot Blümel. The Viennese party chairman and finance minister are at the center of the issues that were presented on Thursday by campaign manager and national director Bernadette Arnoldner and ÖVP candidate Peter L. Eppinger. They confirmed that there is hope for significant growth on October 11.

“Hopefully there will be more turquoise for Vienna in 38 days,” Arnoldner said. It has not happened in Vienna in the last 30 years that a party has doubled, she stressed. However, this is now possible, even if you admitted that the level was “very low”. In 2015, the ÖVP only got 9.24 percent. But you want to be the party that achieves the most growth.

This will be achieved with a series of thematic priorities. “Security for Vienna” is what is spreading. “Achievement for Vienna”, “Integration for Vienna” or “Economy for Vienna” can also be read on the posters or triangular stands. The party leader, Blümel, seems quite severe in some images, but in some he is also smiling.

Arnoldner, campaign manager, said they wanted to do a “decent center-right policy.” It is necessary, for example, to stop “immigration to the social system”. Today, however, the creation of tourist areas that would allow opening on Sundays was once again demanded. They also wanted to address all those who did not want to be satisfied with the “emerging populist politics,” he said.

Peter L. Eppinger also revealed details about the start of the election campaign today. This should take place in a week at the party headquarters on Lichtenfelsgasse. Given the coronavirus situation, participation will not be unlimited. Therefore, requests to speak are also triggered by video.
