Councilor for Education Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) would like to reopen schools in Vienna on January 11 and not on January 18. It considers that the federal government has imposed the closure of the school until the 18th, as a “wrong decision.” And it is “disproportionate” if on the one hand the ski slopes are open to everyone, but on the other hand the schools are closed for three weeks, as reported by Wiederkehr on Monday in the ORF “Wien heute” program.

An earlier start of classes would be possible without further ado, the vice mayor Rosa is convinced in view of the good development of Corona in Vienna. Of course, the opening of schools must depend on the infection rate, and there are already regions in Austria where “the number of cases is still very tense”. In Vienna, however, a significant reduction in the number of infections has been achieved in recent weeks. Regionalization of measures would be very helpful here, Wiederkehr noted.
