Why the corona death statistics had to be corrected

The crisis team of the state of Upper Austria announced yesterday four new deaths in connection with the corona virus. Three people over 80 years old and one only 37 years old, all with previous illnesses, died with or from Covid-19. This increased the number of deaths per crown in Upper Austria to 102.

However, the day before yesterday the crisis team reported the 100th death in connection with the corona virus. At the request of OÖN, a spokesperson for the crisis team explained the deviation in such a way that a Lower Austrian patient who died of Covid-19 at the Steyr Clinic had been “falsely” registered by authorities living in Upper Austria. In the case of the second corona death, which was subsequently removed from the statistics, it is still being checked “whether the patient actually died from Covid-19,” the spokesperson said.

A total of 4,527 people in Upper Austria were infected with the virus on Tuesday (at 5 pm). The crisis team reported 568 new infections and 13,716 residents of Upper Austria in quarantine.

There is good news from Bavaria: travelers now have the option of taking free trials. The Free State of Bavaria pays the costs of a corona test for travelers on one of the test streets in the respective district once a week.

Other protection recommendations

The situation in Upper Austrian nursing homes and nursing homes, on the other hand, appears to be worsening: at 32 facilities (plus two compared to last Friday’s report), 186 residents (+60) and 102 employees (+ 25) were infected with the corona virus (as of Monday). The nursing home in Bad Goisern saw the largest increase in the number of infected people: 28 residents and five new employees were added. After the protection measures had already been strengthened in the nursing homes, the state social department has passed additional protection recommendations to the social institutions of Upper Austria. In women’s shelters, asylum shelters and in assisting the homeless, the number of visitors is reduced to two per day per resident. In emergency sleeping areas, the body temperature of residents and employees must now be measured daily.
