That Turkish wedding in Schrems with 700 guests, which has become the starting point for a crown group, is now drawing strong criticism from the city boss, Karl Harrer.
The mayor didn’t seem to mind the 200-person limit when he approved a 350-person event. There were even 700 people, Waldviertler Abg wrote. Lukas Brandweiner (ÖVP) on Facebook.

It is particularly upsetting that in recent weeks and months, many couples have “postponed, reduced or celebrated their wedding in a different setting,” the mandate said. The number of guests at the Schrems celebration is “irresponsible and disrespectful to people who follow the rules.” Last but not least, Brandweiner expressed the hope that “the health authority will control the cluster despite difficult conditions.”
According to state medical personnel, there were 13 positive cases in connection with Tuesday’s wedding. 150 people were in quarantine. It was not ruled out that the cluster could continue to grow.
So far 15 positive cases of corona
By Wednesday, 15 people had tested positive for the corona virus, two more than the day before. The number of people in quarantine will also rise from the last 150, said Anton Heinzl, spokesman for state health councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ). Visitors from Upper Austria were also present at the celebration at the Waldviertel.
A total of 700 people could not be confirmed, Heinzl said. The festival was registered for a maximum of 350 people. It is not known with certainty how many there were actually. A guest list that has been broadcast now includes 207 names, the spokesperson said. The document was also sent to Upper Austria due to visitors from the neighboring state.
Heinzl also confirmed Wednesday that there were delays in contact tracing. This is because the first people to test positive would not have reported that they had attended the wedding on September 12.
