There is no majority to admit refugees from Moria.
Confusions happen quickly. During European time at the National Council, Blue MEP Georg Mayer critically addressed Ms Rendi-Wagner, who had chosen Moria’s theme. In reality, however, it was Neos’ boss, Beate Meinl-Reisinger. “But I know, they are both double names,” recorded the green member of the National Council, Michel Reimon, in the direction of the politician FPÖ.
But it was also important not to confuse who is in a coalition with whom. While the Greens in speeches like SPÖ and Neos advocated for the admission of refugees from Moria, ÖVP and FPÖ spoke out against it.
“Is that Europe?” Meinl-Reisinger asked in an emotional speech referring to the conditions in the fields there. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz used the refugees “as a kind of human shield,” he said.
The Chancellor said the issue should be emotional. But he would like the debate to be more respectful. And if you host the refugees, others will want to leave.
The ÖVP group applauded for a long time, the Greens not at all.
