What the 24-hour rule means for Austrians – Austria News

An emergency ordinance makes it possible: Despite the risk assessment, Austrians can travel to Germany for 24 hours from Saturday, but not all.

Shopping in Germany, visiting the Europa-Park or collecting mushrooms in the Black Forest is still possible for at least some Austrians. An emergency ordinance allows people from border regions to enter Baden-Württemberg without a corona test from Saturday if the stay does not last more than 24 hours. It does not matter if these federal states are on the German risk list.

This is confirmed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Migration of the state. In the case of Austria, this 24-hour rule applies to Vorarlberg. Vorarlberg has been on Germany’s risk list since September 23; the municipality of Mittelberg in Kleinwalsertal has been excluded since 2 October. So you don’t need a negative corona test for 24-hour visits from Vorarlberg and you don’t have to be quarantined.

Who does this apply to and who does not

Both are also mandatory when entering from Vienna (from September 16) and from Tyrol (from September 25) with the exception of the Jungholz community (from October 2). Currently, there is no German risk assessment for the other federal states. Therefore, border visitors also have the opportunity to spend a day in Europa-Park or in the water world of Rulantica. Overnight stays in the hotel complex are also possible if the duration of the stay does not exceed 24 hours.

Travelers are not affected by the quarantine requirement, at least in Baden-Württemberg. An exception also applies to the cross-border movement of people, goods and merchandise. Therefore, direct travel is allowed. There is no quarantine requirement if you have to undergo necessary medical treatment. Responsible health and regulatory authorities in federal states are generally responsible for quarantine regulations.
