The strict Christmas travel rules bring exceptions for professional travelers, such as 24-hour caretakers, but they are not mandatory for family members.
Starting Wednesday, the strict lockdown will apply in Germany, Italy is already considering declaring the country a red zone during the holidays and tougher measures are already being negotiated in Switzerland. The situation in neighboring countries is now also affecting border traffic in Vorarlberg. Due to a new regulation as of Tuesday, all people entering after December 19, 2020 must be quarantined for ten days. The free trial is only possible after five days and on your own. There are also some exceptions to this regulation.

Exception rules
But there are, as mentioned above, exceptions. They start with people who come from those few countries whose exposure to the crown is still low and who don’t have to submit a negative test. These are travelers from Australia, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Uruguay, the Vatican and, as the only EU countries, Finland and Ireland. However, they must have been there continuously for ten days before. Therefore, it is not possible to get to Austria from Sweden, for example, via Finland and thus avoid quarantine.
Commuters can also enter without restrictions, except for caregivers. People entering the Kleinwalsertal, Vomp-Hinterriss or Jungholz enclaves are also excluded.
Family visits are possible by reservation
Those who come at least once a month for family reasons or to visit their partner can come without an exam. It is also possible to enter the family without restrictions for unforeseeable causes that cannot be postponed, such as serious illnesses, deaths, funerals, births and the care of people in need of support in emergencies. In all other cases, that is, if there are no regular visits or if someone just wants to travel with the family for a Christmas or New Years party, the 10-day quarantine applies.
Exceptions also for travelers
Another relevant exception for the labor market is that of people who come to Germany for professional reasons, because now it also includes caregivers, that is, 24-hour care. You can also enter for humanitarian reasons. Diplomats and medical escorts can also enter the country without fear of quarantine.
The big difference with the rest of groups such as travelers or passengers from safe countries: When entering, a medical certificate must be presented confirming a negative PCR or antigen test and that the test was not more than 72 hours ago. If the test is only carried out in Austria, where an antigen test is also possible, the quarantine ends when the result is negative.

are possible with a medical certificate confirming a negative COVID test (maximum 72 hours). If this certificate cannot be presented, a ten-day quarantine must be initiated immediately. If a molecular biology test for SARS-CoV-2 or an antigen test for SARS-CoV-2 performed during this time is negative, the quarantine is considered to have ended. The costs of the test will be paid by yourself.
Exit shortens quarantine
Anyone who has had enough of Austria but is still in quarantine has the option of leaving the country with the regulation: “Quarantine can be terminated prematurely for the purpose of leaving Austria if the risk of infection is guaranteed to be as high as possible by going out is minimized, “says the newspaper.

Rauch: “Unfortunately, a logical step”
“In view of the tightening related to the crown that will come into force in our neighboring countries in the coming days or that have already entered into force, the Austrian Covid entry regulation issued today is, unfortunately, the logical step,” said the adviser Green provincial Johannes Rauch in a broadcast on strict travel rules. Austria does not exist in a vacuum, so it is sensible to consider the decisions of the Crown of neighboring countries.
The exemption from the entry regulation for the Mittelberg community is encouraging. In addition, the cheapest antigen tests are now on par with the more expensive PCR tests, both in terms of entry and the so-called free trial after five days.
Gantner: “Shopping trips are not allowed”
With a view to further containment of the development of COVID-19 infections in the country, the regional councilor Christian Gantner also calls for the systematic enforcement of entry and protection measures, especially in the Christmas holidays: “For example , entry into Austria for shopping trips is not allowed. “
