A 42-year-old man may have fired two shots into the roof of a house in Hohenems in Vorarlberg (Dornbirn district) on Saturday. During a subsequent search of the house, police found a total of three long weapons, ammunition, an empty magazine and two shot cartridges in the man’s department, the executive said.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Due to the direction of the shooting, police assumed the shot came from the 42-year-old house. However, the man initially refused to open the front door, after which the police forcibly opened it.

Gun ban imposed on 42-year-olds

Weapons and ammunition were seized and a provisional ban on weapons was imposed on the shooter. Due to his psychological condition, the 42-year-old man was admitted to Rankweil State Hospital at the instigation of the medical officer.

The seized firearms are small-caliber rifles, which can be purchased by people over the age of 18 without permission from the firearm authorities.
