Local recreation will be developed in the south of St. Pölten: a lake near Spratzern and Hart will provide cooling and relaxation.
S T. PÖLTEN. Even if at these prevailing temperatures no one could think of swimming outdoors, they do think of walking, relaxing and walking. And you can do it in St. Pölten, both in Ratzersdorfer and in Viehofner See. And in five to ten years also in the South Pacific. Yes, you read that right.
“I see, I see …”
The city is planning a lake in the south between Spratzern and Hart, as Mayor Matthias Stadler just announced in an online press conference titled “I see, I see what you don’t see.” And exactly where Traisen makes a curve in this area
An added attraction in the south of the city makes you sit back and take note: many people understand that the south seas are recreation and they drive away and that does not work now because of the crown. With this vision of the state capital, one thing is clear: in St. Pölten, an additional leisure oasis will develop in the south next to the military training area. As Stadler reports, the options are there:
“We have already reviewed it, of course we still have to overcome one obstacle or another. Above all, in terms of approval, because in order to remove the gravel and create a bathing area an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is necessary.”
In the next five to ten years, however, the South Pacific should develop and complete the offering in addition to Aquacity and Citysplash, as well as the two lakes in the north of the city.
“I think in a city you have visions and you have to plan for the future,” said the city chief of the South Sea century project, “which of course shouldn’t take that long to develop.”
Stadler laughing.
Stay creative
With the completion of flood protection in the Spratzern and Hart district, they want to further develop the area accordingly, they want to stay creative and take steps to make the population feel comfortable despite the huge growth in the state capital and se create appropriate local recreation areas. And it also has that: in the west of the city there is the forest, which offers additional protection against the wind, in the north the Sturm 19-Park is being developed / the district newspapers have reported /, the promenade is also being redesigned with more greenery and opportunities to stay / have district papers informed /.
And in the south are the southern seas (wink).
BEZIRKSBLÄTTER: When exactly can we swim in the South Pacific?
MAYOR MATTHIAS STADLER: “Now we are starting the process. Of course, there have already been clarifications and discussions to be able to carry out such a considerable project. The so-called environmental compatibility procedure with the removal of gravel and all the issues of the water law is also necessary – This is where the uncertainty about the weather lies.Believe me, I would like to promise you that in the next two years we will be able to go swimming there and enjoy this new local recreation area. Realistically, it will take five to ten years, depending on how many objections there are. But I hope, and I have to be completely honest, as with highway construction projects or other large projects where EIA projects are necessary so that we don’t encounter significant resistance with a local recreation area and a lake in the south. Sustainable urban planning does not always go with the legal provisions from now on, even if we wish it would. “
Is it possible to estimate the costs of the project of the century?
MAYOR MATTHIAS STADLER: “Yes, but in the end it depends on the size we put together. It is also about the exchange or purchase of one or another property here. In this sense, we want an optimal size for the new one, if possible.” There is also the question of what is stipulated, how the ballast is removed and how it is to be sold. If we do what we want, then it will be possible for us within an affordable framework, and then also it will not be incurred within a year, and we have already incurred costs for the purchase of properties there, we will be able to distribute that over several years. “
Gravel mining: are there already specific companies here that have submitted bids?
MAYOR MATTHIAS STADLER: “First you have to approve the permits for extraction and then you will see in the course of the bidding process who is the highest bidder. Now and today we present the vision and the clear objective of developing the south of St. Pölten. The coming months and years they are used to implementing that. But it will not depend on us whether there is one or another official measure that will cost time. Anyone who has already started a project of this type knows realistically what they have to take into account with.
