In France, protests against police violence broke out on Saturday.

After several cases of brutal police violence, more than 100,000 people in France protested against a controversial law to protect the police. This caused riots. In Paris alone, around 46,000 took to the streets.

Several groups of protesters set up barricades and threw stones and fireworks at the police. Two cars, a motorcycle and construction materials caught fire. The police used stun grenades and tear gas. According to Interior Minister Darmanin, 37 policemen were injured.

Thousands of protesters were also present in Lille, Rennes, Strasbourg and other cities. As the French news agency AFP reported, citing the Interior Ministry, a total of 133,000 people protested across the country.

The law aims to criminalize the distribution of photos or videos of police operations. The protests were sparked by a video posted earlier this week showing a black man being beaten for minutes by three police officers on November 21.
