When it comes to cycling in Vienna, two opinions clash. This also applies to emerging bike lanes. The temporary cycle lanes, which are supposed to create more space for cyclists, have recently warmed some Viennese hearts. Now there is a decision about its future, at least for the moment: three of the four emerging bike lanes will run until November 1.
In particular, the temporary lanes for the wheels will be maintained on Praterstrasse and Lassallestrasse, both in Leopoldstadt, and on Wagramer Strasse / Kagraner Brücke in the Danube city, the office of Transport Councilor Birgit Hebein (Greens) announced on Wednesday. The cycle lane that generated the most criticism is now being dismantled: the Hörlgasse in Alsergrund.
An evaluation by the Technical University of Vienna showed that the three emerging cycle paths in districts 2 and 22 are particularly well received. However, the one at Hörlgasse in Alsergrund did not turn out to be the optimal solution for cycling. The deputy mayor said the district was working on a long-term redesign.
