Last August, Austria and Germany were just two countries above the 100,000 overnight mark. The average occupancy of hotel beds fell to 27.2 percent. In the same period last year, it was still 73.2 percent. The year as a whole has been in the red for a long time: in the period from January to August, 3,774,000 overnight stays were recorded in the federal capital, 67 percent less than in the same period in 2019.
Sales have also collapsed: according to Vienna Tourism, the companies were able to generate 161.9 million euros in the period from January to July. That’s 70 percent less than in the corresponding period in 2019. Sales figures for August are not yet available.
