The alleged perpetrator of the attack in Vienna is a 20-year-old Viennese. Austria’s Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) announced this to the APA news agency. Therefore, the man had roots in North Macedonia and was a supporter of the terrorist group IS with a relevant criminal record.
The killers fired shots in the center of Vienna on Monday night. At least four people died and 17 others were injured, some seriously. Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz spoke of a “disgusting terrorist attack”.
According to information from SPIEGEL, the alleged murderer is Kujtim F., 20 years old. He was convicted of a crime of terrorism in Vienna last year. In 2018, F. tried to join the terrorist militia of the “Islamic State” (IS) in Syria, but was arrested by the police in Turkey.
Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer described the murdered attacker as “sympathizers of the terrorist IS militia.” According to Interior Minister Nehammer, the attacker was armed with an assault rifle and was also wearing a fake explosive belt. According to the Vienna police, he shot at six crime scenes: Morzinplatz, Salzgries, Seitenstettengasse, Graben, farmers market and meat market.
The alleged perpetrator is said to have previously announced his attack on Instagram. Following an investigation by the “Bild” newspaper, the security authorities are currently checking whether the Instagram account of an Islamist, which has now been blocked, shows the killer.
The alleged perpetrators are said to have sworn allegiance to IS
A photo from the account showed a man posing with an assault rifle, pistol and machete. On the picture he wrote: “I give the Bayah to Amirul Mumineen, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi.”
Al-Hashimi is the leader of the terrorist militia “Islamic State” (IS) and the successor of the murdered Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. By “Bayah” is meant an Islamic oath of allegiance with which individuals pledge allegiance to a ruler or group. The lone perpetrators claim to belong to Islamist organizations. The confession allows a terrorist group to later claim the facts.
