In the run-up to the playoff semifinals between Bolzano and Vienna, an exciting and tight best-of-seven series was expected in many places. This exciting series is now also a reality on paper: thanks to the success of 3: 1 in the fourth semi-final, the capitals equalized at 2: 2 and set the clocks to zero.
Bolzano fought against the usual and aggressive Viennese from the beginning and, at first, did not find a suitable remedy against the high foresight of the locals. Due to the early interruption, the HCB defensive network was forced to make simple mistakes, which even offered the Capitals some opportunities. However, Bolzano goalkeeper Leland Irving destroyed all of this in the early stages.
Vienna celebrates, HCB fight: Taylor Vause (left, in yellow jersey) just scored to make it 1-0.
After just over 10 minutes, the Canadian goalkeeper had to admit defeat for the first time: a frivolous loss of the puck in preparation for the game ended with former Bozen player Taylor Vause, who after his own conclusion was somewhat happy to do the 1-0. HCB looked calm in the first third and had the best chance of equalizing on a great individual action from Anthony Bardaro, but the attacker was stuck at 1: 1 against Vienna goalkeeper Starkbaum.
Robertson with the twelfth goal of the season
In the first half of the middle zone, the hosts remained the protagonists and were very close to the second goal on several occasions. When the Capitals had their strongest phase, Bolzano went cold like ice: Dennis Robertson took the blue line on a power play and tied with a concealed shot to make it 1-1. As a result, the HCB increasingly came into play, resulting in an eye-level encounter with opportunities on both sides.
Shortly before the second siren, however, Bolzano’s players weakened again: Gleason Fournier practically leveraged his teammates with a sloppy play, to which Marco Richter thanked them kindly and scored undisturbed to make it 2-1.
In the numerous duels against the gang, the HCB often lagged behind.
Although the HCB still had more than 20 minutes to change course, Captain Anton Bernard and company were unable to react. Vienna defended smartly and kept the Bozen with a disciplined defensive performance away from their own danger zone; therefore, a final white-red offense was missing. In the final minutes of the match, the hosts finally made things clear with two more goals: First, the rogue Ty Loney, standing behind the goal, shamelessly increased to 3: 1, before Benjamin Nissner scored the final 4: 1 with one shot. on the empty goal.
