Vienna (OTS) – The Vienna Philharmonic will commemorate 80 years of the New Year’s Concert on January 1, 2021 and will send its musical New Year’s greetings to the whole world for the 81st time. For the 63rd time, the ORF will broadcast the classic first-class event live, at 11:15 am at ORF 2 and Ö1 and as a live broadcast on TVthek.ORF.at and oe1.ORF.at. Riccardo Muti leads for the sixth time the concert of the concerts that, due to the pandemic, will take place without an audience for the first time in history. The ORF will take this into account with its visual dramaturgy, for which director Henning Kasten is responsible for the third time, as well as an interactive live applause initiative as a gesture of appreciation to the orchestra in the empty Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. . Today, Tuesday, December 29, 2020, the annual press conference took place there for the first time, in which Maestro Muti, the board member of the Philharmonic Daniel Froschauer and the director general of the ORF, Dr. Alexander Wrabetz alongside the host, artistic director Dr. Stephan Pauly presented the concert program and additional details from the ORF broadcast on the podium.
Froschauer: “Send a hopeful and positive signal for 2021”
“Especially in difficult times like these, it is particularly important to be able to count on reliable alliances like those of ORF or Wiener Musikverein”, emphasizes the director of the Vienna Philharmonic, Daniel Froschauer. “What makes us especially happy and grateful is the artistic collaboration with Maestro Muti. The Vienna Philharmonic has performed with him for 50 years. Riccardo Muti will be on the podium of the Vienna Philharmonic for the sixth time at the New Year’s Concert 2021 and this time he will conduct seven premieres. The Vienna State Ballet interludes recorded during the concert in the new choreography by José Carlos Martínez and the costumes by Christian Lacroix were filmed in summer at the Liechtenstein Garden Palace and at the Looshaus under the direction of Henning Kasten. On the 150th anniversary of its builder “Adolf Loos – visionary and provocative”, ORF 2 shows Rudolf Klingohr’s portrait of the same name at 9.45am.
