Anyone who wants to eat or drink in Viennese restaurants will need to sign up for a mandatory guest list in the future. Mayor Ludwig announced this on Thursday. The regulation goes into effect on Monday and will apply until the end of the year.
Vienna, the federal capital, issues an ordinance on mandatory guest registration in the restaurant sector. This is to make it easier to follow up with contact persons in case of coronavirus infections. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) announced this Thursday in an interview with the APA.
The regulation should go into effect on Monday. A corresponding form is currently being developed.
Implementation through house rules
Hosts must fill out forms in which guests must register. This should be set out in the house rules of the respective catering establishments, as explained by Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ). He emphasized that one deliberately refrained from lists, and instead relied on implementation using individual sheets. This is to ensure that other visitors cannot see who also visited the restaurant that day.
Forms must be collected by restorers and kept for four weeks. In any case, data protection must be guaranteed, he assured. Because the authority can only inspect documents in case of infection.
Sanction for entrepreneurs
Employers who refuse to submit the forms face penalties. The regulation, as Ludwig stressed, was also coordinated with the president of the Chamber of Commerce Walter Ruck. The regulation will initially apply until the end of the year.
The city chief confirmed in the APA conversation that he did not want to bring a curfew, like the federal states in the west, to 10 p.m. This would increase the risk of people going to illegal parties after the bars or party at home with large numbers of people, Ludwig noted.
