The Green Negotiation Team is made up entirely of renowned politicians, namely Party Leader and Deputy Mayor Birgit Hebein, Club President David Ellensohn, Planning Spokesperson Peter Kraus (he was also second on the list), the Club Vice President Jennifer Kickert, Budget Spokesperson Martin Margulies and Side Participant Judith Pühringer are third on the green list and will therefore be permanently represented on the City Council.

The Greens will also meet internally this week, in digital form due to the crown, to discuss the results of Sunday’s election. The party council, the highest body of the Greens, will meet on Thursday. In addition to Hebein, MPs and representatives of the green districts and sub-organizations are represented. The Greens do not hide the fact that they would like to continue the red-green cooperation that has existed in the city since 2010.

The Vienna NEOS are also ready to talk to the SPÖ about a future government. After a meeting of the party executive committee, party leader Christoph Wiederkehr once again confirmed his joy at the result of the Vienna elections: “We are very satisfied.” Based on current projections, NEOS were able to increase by nearly two percentage points to less than eight percent. According to Wiederkehr, the number of terms could grow from five to nine. He is also pleased that there is probably room for improvement in all districts. Y: According to the head of NEOS in Vienna, there will also be a position in the city hall.

“Yes, we are ready to take responsibility,” said Wiederkehr. One wants to see in the talks whether a “reform coalition” is possible. According to its president, NEOS wants to discuss four key issues in any negotiation, namely education, labor market, climate protection and transparency. He stressed that a “very constructive stance” would be taken on transport. On this topic, there have recently been increasing inconsistencies between red and green.

Wiederkehr got people to sit down and take notice with the announcement that the parliamentary group NEOS will not hold the non-executive city council seat, that is, if the Pinkies are entitled to one and do not join the government. The Rathaus-Pinken advocates for the abolition of this office, although this could only be implemented by the federal government. Vienna has a proportional system in which opposition parties also receive seats in the city’s Senate. According to Wiederkehr, it is legally possible not to fill the position.

The leader of the federal SPÖ party, Pamela Rendi-Wagner, does not give Mayor Ludwig a recommendation with which of the three available parties he should fight for a coalition in Vienna. At a press conference, he said that where there are thematic overlaps, there should also be conversations. That does not exclude NEOS, the Greens or the ÖVP, according to statements by the mayor of Vienna.
