Instead of the usual ten days, corona-infected people and contact persons in Vienna will have to be re-quarantined for 14 days. The city is following the recommendation of the federal government.

Vienna will implement the federal recommendation to extend the quarantine period for people infected with SARS-Cov-2. The time is now no longer extended to more than ten, but to more than 14 days for infected people and contact persons, as announced by Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ). His office confirmed a corresponding report in the “Kronen Zeitung” for the APA.

Longer quarantine due to British variant

The move is a consequence of the spread of the British variant of the coronavirus, which, according to current knowledge, is significantly more infectious. The decision to extend the quarantine will be made today Monday by the crisis team.

The hacker warned that there is no point in letting the quarantine for infected people expire if people continue to infect afterward. However, people who have Covid can be tested to see how infectious they are. If a test you have completed shows only a very low value, the secretion may stop prematurely from the 10th day.

“Free trials” possible from the tenth day

Contact persons can also complete the quarantine after ten days. To do this, they must have a negative PCR test and have no symptoms. The changes should take effect immediately, he said.

As of Monday, 96,772 positive tests have been confirmed in Vienna since the start of the pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 583 new infections were included in the statistics. Currently 5,895 people are still sick.

The number of deaths related to the virus is 1,729. That is an increase of seven cases since yesterday Sunday.
