Vienna changes access rules for mass events at Messe Wien

The city of Vienna has announced a change in the rules of access to mass tests at the Messe Wien location: from Sunday, people who are registered there will be able to take their relatives to the test even without an appointment of their own, he announced Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) at the end of the afternoon in the APA conversation. That was not possible before. The Messe Wien test location is used relatively little.

“Starting tomorrow, everyone who is registered can bring their family members to the showroom. Even if the registration was in a different room,” Hacker explained. In Messe Wien you can take the tests together with your family members, such as life partners, parents, children or in-laws.

Until now it was necessary for everyone who wanted to participate in the mass tests to set their own appointment for one of the three available locations, Stadthalle, Messe Wien or Marx-Halle, via an online registration platform.

The total capacity at the three locations is designed for up to 150,000 tests per day or for a total of more than 1 million people. Neither yesterday nor today this was far from being achieved. According to the city, about 24,000 people had signed up for appointments on both days.

The workload at the locations is quite different. The town hall is particularly popular, in which there were no more free slots today and which, according to Hacker, will also be full on Sunday. The situation is completely different in Messe Wien, where the occupancy rate was below ten percent today. “That’s why we dare to do it, and if some of those who have registered don’t show up at city hall, it doesn’t matter. Then they have a little less to do there,” Hacker said.
