Vienna: Chancellor for stricter measures; Hackers agree with orange

From Wednesday to Thursday there are 387 new corona cases in Vienna. This and the development of recent days prompted Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) to petition the Corona traffic light commission, which will meet for the second time this afternoon and discuss the new traffic light change starting tomorrow.

As KURIER learned from the chancellor’s environment, Kurz hopes that “the traffic light commission will take stricter measures and not overlook the numbers.” He was briefly concerned about “the explosion of numbers” in Vienna. According to insiders, this could indicate that Vienna will be upgraded from yellow to orange tonight by the traffic light commission, which would mean massive restrictions.

The Vienna ÖVP canceled the start of the election campaign scheduled for Thursday night at Lichtenfelsgasse for the 100 guests. The event will only take place on the Internet via live broadcast.

Hacker calls for new federal regulations

In view of the increasing numbers, Health Councilor Peter Hacker calls for the reintroduction of stricter measures across Austria in an interview with the APA. I wanted to discuss this with the federal government. Either new regulations are needed at the national level or the possibility of imposing regional measures, he explained.

The city council will report tomorrow, Friday, after the talks, what hardening it considers sensible, as announced. However, he indicated that there could be additional obligations to wear mouth and nose protection, as well as new regulations on the maximum number of people indoors or at outdoor events.
