Sixteen people have already been arrested in connection with the Vienna attack. Six suspects have already been released.
Six of the 16 men arrested in connection with the terrorist attack have been released. With them, the suspicion would not have been confirmed, said the spokeswoman for the Prosecutor’s Office Nina Bussek to the APA. However, there are currently eight people in detention. Two suspects have not yet been booked into prison.
Eight men arrested
The preventive detention imposed on the eight men is legally effective until November 21. You are strongly suspected of having contributed to the crimes of murder, participation in a terrorist group and a criminal organization by supporting the murderer in the run-up to the attack. The reasons for custody are the risk of flight, the risk of blackout and also the risk of committing a crime.
The men against whom the urgent suspicion was confirmed are between the ages of 16 and 24 and are from Austria, Kosovo, Bangladesh, North Macedonia and the Russian Federation. According to the APA, two of them, a 19-year-old and the other 22, already have relevant criminal records for suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization (Article 278b of the Penal Code), including the friend of the murderer who tried him in 2018. to go to Syria. The two were eventually arrested in Turkey and brought to justice. The 18-year-old from Bangladesh, who was being investigated by a terrorist organization at the time of the attack, is also detained.
Suspects can file a complaint against pretrial detention within 14 days; the Vienna Higher Regional Court will decide on this. For reasons of tactical investigations, the authorities did not reveal further details about the content of the defendants’ statements and further information.

The men are suspected of contributing to the Vienna bombing or committing the crime of participating in a terrorist group or criminal organization. Two lines of research lead to other countries. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) kept a low profile on Thursday. Two young men were arrested in Switzerland. There were also house searches in Germany. Four men were in contact with the Viennese killer, and one even visited him in the federal capital in the summer. The Austrian Interior Ministry declined to confirm this on Friday.
