After the attack in Vienna, 15 wounded are being treated in Vienna hospitals. Those affected were transferred to a total of six hospitals, as explained by the medical director of the Vienna Health Association, Michael Binder, in an interview with the APA.

Additional capabilities were created immediately, it reported.

Viennese hospitals prepared for all eventualities

They are not currently needed, Binder said. The number of trauma surgery beds required is sufficient for the time being. But you want to be prepared for all eventualities. Some of the injured are currently undergoing surgery, but Binder did not provide any information on their condition at this time. The gunshot wounds would be treated.

The victims are housed in the general hospital, in the Donaustadt, Ottakring and Floridsdorf clinics and in the Lorenz Böhler and Meidling accident hospitals of AUVA. This includes all the major trauma surgery centers in Vienna, Binder said. Additional capabilities were achieved immediately, and personnel were also immediately put into service.

Hospitals “well insured” after the attack in Vienna

Transporting those affected to hospitals went smoothly: “The rescue chain worked very well,” Binder said. Security measures in hospitals were also intensified, as stated by the hospital director: “The houses are well secured.”

More recently, in relation to the coronavirus pandemic, there were also repeated reports of strained hospital capacities in Vienna. This will not be compounded by current events, he said. According to Binder, internal beds and non-trauma beds are necessary for Covid diseases. They are different areas.
