Premier League: A pinpoint decision thwarted the champions in a spectacular Merseyside derby.

A controversial decision by the video referee cost Liverpool the victory in the Derby, the English champions had to settle for a 2-2 in the Premier League duel at Everton. Liverpool’s supposed winning goal in injury time by Jordan Henderson was removed, the video assistant had found coach Sadio Mané with his shoulder slightly offside.

The so-called Everton loser had gone to the Merseyside derby with a string of unprecedented successes. After the draw, Carlo Ancelotti’s team remains undefeated at the top of the table. However, it means waiting for the first victory against city rivals in a decade.

Champions Liverpool also missed the break after the historic 7-2 debacle against Aston Villa, Liverpool’s biggest defeat in Premier League history. At Goodison Park, Jürgen Klopp’s team took the lead twice thanks to an early goal from Mané (3rd) and Liverpool’s 100th goal from Mohamed Salah (72nd). But Michael Keane (19th) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (81st) each tied the hosts. Calvert-Lewin, 23, has already scored his seventh goal in the fifth game of the Premier League season.

Earlier, a wild tackle by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford against Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk was the surprise. The star defender, therefore, had to leave the field in the 10th minute with a knee injury. In the later stages, Everton were outnumbered as Richarlison had received the red card for a hard foul on Liverpool newcomer Thiago. ⫻
