Austria, WAC and SKN St. Pölten celebrated their victories in the second round of the Bundesliga on Sunday. Veilchen beat SV Ried 2: 1 at home, the Wolfsbergers took the lead at TSV Hartberg 2: 0 and SKN added the last Admira in a 0: 5 home loss. Defending champion Red Bull Salzburg leads the table with six points.
In front of some 3,000 spectators at the Generali Arena, the Violets defeated SV Ried 2-1. The two-time scorer was Christoph Monschein, who was recently named to the ÖFB squad and pocketed two penalties. The late Viennese goal came from an own goal by Austria’s substitute defender Maudo Jarjue. Both teams have a win and a loss after two matches.
Previously, St. Pölten had cleared Admira 5-0. Marcel Tanzmayr capped his debut with a goal in the third minute. After a double pack from neo-striker Alexander Schmidt (16, 29), Luan (39) and Dor Hugi (68) also signed up for the shooting list. St. Pölten have already played six games without a loss in all seasons and have yet to concede a goal this season. Admira is at the bottom of the table with zero points and 1: 9 goals.
The WAC won at the same time in Hartberg thanks to a double from Matthäus Taferner (55th) and Dario Vizinger (60th). For Hartberg, after the failed European Cup interlude at Piast Gliwice, it was the second loss in four days, the Styrians are now in 10th place in the table. WAC, who had to admit defeat to champion Salzburg early on, pushed their way to the center of the table with three points.
