The classification will take place in less than two hours. Meanwhile, the ticker continues with voices and other news from the paddock.
End of working day!
That was it with the last practice session, the fastest time is for Verstappen ahead of Hamilton and Gasly. Bottas and Pérez follow him. Surprisingly far behind is Norris at 16. That shouldn’t be representative, McLaren can do much more. We look forward to an exciting qualification later!
Not much to see …
… remains from the two former world champions Vettel and Alonso. They were further back on Friday as well, currently at P14 and P15. Both are also slower than their respective teammates. It doesn’t have to mean anything, but a pattern is slowly becoming apparent. It shouldn’t be an easy classification for either of you. The session will end soon.
Verstappen P1
It’s still the same this weekend: There’s no getting around Verstappen! After two best times on Friday, he is now pushing himself again with a 1: 30.5. It is more than 0.7 seconds faster than Hamilton! Meanwhile, Gasly goes back up to P3. Helmut Marko should be satisfied.
Perez can’t answer
The Mexican arrives only in P3 with a 1: 31.9. He still seems to have a harder time with Red Bull than with his teammate. Speaking of Verstappen: he’ll be out now too. Let’s see if he can attack the Mercedes with a double advantage.
Faster times
Now the best teams are also raising it a bit. Hamilton regains the lead with a 1: 31.3, Bottas jumps to P2. This time you can keep your lap time. Behind them is Sainz in the Ferrari at P3. Verstappen and Pérez are currently in the pits, so we will have to wait for a response from Red Bull.
Problem with Vettel
The German is only 19th and penultimate. There seems to be another problem with the car. During the trip, a part flew off and hit Vettel in the hull. After that, of course, he drove back to the pits first.
Gasly P1
Well, look at it, then it goes a little faster. Gasly takes the lead with a 1: 32.3. A sign that the best teams are still holding back a bit here.
Next flipper
Masepin made it into Turn 7. By the way, the Russian has been a bit slower than his teammate Mick Schumacher so far. That was already the case yesterday. Bottas, meanwhile, has returned to last place after being cut on another occasion. You have to have that under control before qualifying.
Verstappen P1
Even the Dutchman is not really fast with his 1: 32.6. But enough to take the lead against Hamilton and Norris. It is probably not possible anymore with the conditions in terms of time. Even if I don’t have much to say: Red Bull vs. Mercedes again …
Dreher leclerc
The Ferrari driver makes the first lap of the day. He took off at Turn 2. Kimi lost his front wing yesterday. Unlike the “Iceman”, Leclerc manages not to damage the car. Meanwhile, Hamilton leads with a 1: 32.9. Fast is different.
Bottas and the Tracklimts …
That was already a problem yesterday, they were canceled several times for the Finn because he was too far into turn 4. Because of this, he has now also been denied his lap time. Therefore, there is not yet a single representative time in this session. The route is now getting a bit busier. Let’s see.
photos
Unfortunately we don’t have any photos of moving cars yet, because no one is driving! One round of Tsunoda, that’s all so far. However, at this point the reference to our photo gallery today. It is already full and will of course be filled later with moving cars. Now Bottas is finally breaking the silence!
Only Tsunoda drives
Yesterday the teams were still in a rush at the start of the abbreviated FT1 and FT2 sessions. Today it looks a little different. Currently only Tsunoda drives. Not surprisingly, after work you have to look overnight to see if everything works fine again on the AT02. The other 19 cars are in the pits. You know from previous FT3 years …
The track lights up
The asphalt temperature in Bahrain is currently almost 49 degrees, the air temperature 38.5. So it should be quite hot in the cabin right away! Like I said: you won’t learn much to classify. But especially for newbies like Mick Schumacher, driving in such hot conditions is important. Every meter helps.
Open the session ticker now!
You already know the game: here you get pictures, voices and the most important information about the session during training. The full report is available from my colleague Stefan Ehlen in our separate session ticker. The best thing to do is just open both tickers at the same time, then you won’t miss a thing this time either!
Also in FT3 there are 60 minutes on the clock again, nothing has changed this year.
