Just minutes after Biden’s electoral victory was known at the Electoral College, Trump announced the resignation of his attorney general William Barr. More recently, Barr had publicly denied Trump’s allegations of systematic voter fraud.
METERIn the midst of the dispute over the outcome of the US presidential elections, Justice Minister William Barr submitted his resignation to current President Donald Trump. In a letter from Trump posted on Twitter Monday night (local time), Barr said he would step down from office on December 23.
The president released Barr’s letter minutes after it emerged that Trump’s Democratic hopeful and election winner Joe Biden received a majority of the electorate in the Electoral College.
As Attorney General, Barr had dismissed allegations of systematic voter fraud, as President Trump had repeatedly done. Barr told the Associated Press news agency in early December about the provisional results of the investigation into the matter that “no fraud had been seen to the extent that it could have led to a different election result.”
