The Votive Church will be a Covid-related learning venue for the University of Vienna starting October 5. The second-largest church in the Archdiocese of Vienna was rented by the university for the times when there was no church service, Kathpress reported Thursday. Wi-Fi can be used in the church, there are radiant heaters and container bathrooms available nearby. The church space is intended to be a quiet study and work area for students.
Many Austrian universities are currently relying on parallel formats: since conference rooms can generally only be used up to a maximum of 50 percent, students who cannot find a place should be able to follow courses online, which will be possible in Vienna, for example, in the Votive Church. The church is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm
“Hybrid start” in the new academic year
“Hybrid” began the new academic year this Thursday at eight in the morning at the Audimax of the University of Vienna. Due to the crown, only some of the students were able to follow the pharmacy lecture on the site, the others were there digitally via live streaming. To prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the university as much as possible, everyone must wear a mask, the seats are numbered, and there must be a distance of one meter from the person sitting next to them.

The Student Union (ÖH) of the University of Vienna has sent an email requesting more clarity on operations in the new academic year. It lacks clear guidelines for the courses and information on the conditions under which they are held in person or online. The ÖH also complains about legal uncertainty and the low participation of students.
