In the opinion of UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin, the international football community has learned its lesson in the year Corona 2020 and has come close despite all the troubles.

Working together in a spirit of commitment and mutual understanding contributed to “acting as a team and fighting for the same goals,” the president of the European Football Union wrote in an annual review on uefa.com on Thursday.

“Overcome all obstacles”

If the European football community remains so determined and united in the future, it will be able to “overcome any obstacle”.

In the past nine months, “a number of serious obstacles” have been overcome, Ceferin said, citing examples: the readjustment of the entire UEFA calendar for 2020/21, the reform and completion of four competitions in August alone, the safe return of the fans at the Super Cup Final in Budapest and postponement of the EM 2020 for twelve months.

Ceferin stressed that this measure made it possible for the season to be played to the end in most of the European leagues this summer.
