Two doctors reportedly died from a window fall in a hospital in Russia, a third was seriously injured. They had previously criticized Russia’s handling of the crown pandemic and working conditions for doctors and nurses.
Ambulance doctor suffers skull fracture
One of the doctors is Alexander Shulepov. He works at an outpatient clinic in the western Voronezh region of Russia and posted a video on social media on April 22, Buzzfeed reports. According to him, he spoke about the lack of medical care and the fact that he had been forced to work despite positive crown tests. Ten days later, under mysterious circumstances, he fell out of a hospital window, local media reported. Shulepow, 37, survived the fall from the second floor, but suffered a skull fracture and was currently in critical condition.
Previously, two doctors were said to have died in this way. According to media reports, Jelena Nepomnjaschtschaja, the head of a hospital for war veterans in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, died on Friday. He had fallen out of the window of his fifth-floor office. She is said to have complained to her superiors about the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) for herself and her employees. The regional health minister is said to have decidedly decided not to set up his own ward for Corona patients only.
Doctor accused of Covid-19 infection
The day before, on April 24, Natalia Lebedeva died. The director of the ambulance center in Svyosdny, near Moscow, 48, died “from the consequences of an accident,” a statement from the Moscow hospital said. She was hospitalized with Covid-19. Moskowskij Komsomolez and REN TV news channels, quoting Lebedewa’s colleagues, said he had fallen out of a window and possibly committed suicide. Her superiors are said to have accused her of infecting several of her colleagues with the corona virus. Police have not confirmed the reports.
After Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in mid-April that the coronavirus situation in the country was completely under control, an outbreak forced him to take strict measures of social distancing from regional authorities. Some observers said that Russian authorities may have underestimated the number of coronavirus cases and deaths from Covid-19 due to less evidence.
