After finding a 29-year-old girl and her four-year-old daughter with fatal gunshot wounds Sunday afternoon in a car in the town of Eibesthal in the Weinviertel district town of Mistelbach, investigators from the Criminal Police Office of the State of Lower Austria assume an act of desperation. The autopsy, investigation results and crime scene work made it clear that the woman shot the boy and herself, police said Tuesday.
There was a revolver in the car, which was parked in a windbreaker belt on a dirt road. Police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner confirmed in a report in the newspaper “Heute” that the woman stole the gun from her partner during the separation. The man reported the disappearance of the revolver.
The spokesperson announced late Monday that traces of smoke had been found. Examination of the 29-year-old’s shooting hand was positive.
Late Sunday night it became clear that there was no suspicion of a crime against the young woman’s ex-partner. The 59-year-old man had previously been wanted. The man later turned himself in at the Horn Police Station. His alibi was confirmed by witnesses.
According to the police, further investigations into the crime history are underway. Forensic investigations continued.
